Transition from Sole Proprietorship to a Company/Organization

Before We Start

• In order to make your app available on the App Store, your business must be recognized as a legal entity. This means that your business must be classified as a Corporation, Limited Partnership, or Limited Liability Company. If your business is recognized as an Individual or Sole Proprietor, you will need to update your business license before continuing with the Apple Developer migration process.
• In order to verify the legal status of your company/organization, Apple will require that you submit your D-U-N-S number. Don't have one yet? Please follow our guide here.
• In order to transition the enrollment membership from an Individual to a Company/Organization account, the person submitting the upcoming information must have the legal authority to bind the organization to legal agreements. This typically means that the contact is an owner/founder, executive team member, senior project lead, or has had the legal authority granted to them by a senior employee.

Steps

To start the conversion process, you will need to contact Apple. You may be asked to submit business documents to verify your organization’s identity.

1. Head over to https://developer.apple.com/contact/topic/select
2. Select the 'Membership and Account' category button.
3. Select the 'Account Information Update' category button.
4. Select either "Phone" or "Email" options.

We have an email template for you here to expedite the process. Please fill in the blanks as Apple will need all of this information to start the transition process. If you decide to call you will need the same information handy.

Next up

Once you have submitted your transition request to Apple via the contact form, you can expect to receive a confirmation email. Apple will typically reach out to you within 24-48 hours to verify your transition request and may ask for additional information to verify your business as a legal entity.
